PARAMETRIC STUDY OF THE AUTOMOTIVE CONDENSER MANUFACTURING PROCESS IN A BRAZING FURNACE : The research focuses on the defect reduction in an assembly line of a
condenser of an automobile air conditioner. The brazing furnace has function in
combining the condenser’s tube & fins and headers. The condenser is usually
designed as the flat tube-louvered fin heat exchanger. The defect problem caused by
an existing Brazing Furnace (Brazing #1) has been encountered by the case study
factory. Therefore, modeling and simulation has been conducted in the research. In
this work, the 3-D condenser model was combined to the brazing furnace domain
during the brazing operation, showing the temperature distribution on the condenser
and the time-dependent temperature profile. The condenser model was generated by
AutoDesk Inventor software, and the parametric simulation of the condenser was
carried out by using an well-known engineering ANSYSTM software.
The influence of operating conditions set up to the brazing furnace could be
clarified and characterized by the simulation model, which was already verified by the
experimental results. The research output displayed that the brazing furnace would not
be a black box for the factory any longer. Initially, in the preliminary simulation, the
model was divided into 8 zones; starting from the dry-off zone, zone 1 to zone 6 to the
cooling zone. However, the resulted R-square was unacceptable. Consequently, the
brazing furnace model was further divided into 21 zones. As a result, the discrepancy
analysis gave acceptable ac
