BLDC Motor Drive with Bi-Directional Buck-Boost Converter and PWM Technology : The Brushless DC (BLDC) motor is one type of high-efficiency electric motor, low maintenance, and wide speed range, which gaining popularity for electric vehicles. Moreover, the important part of electric vehicles that are indispensable is an AC to DC and DC to DC electronic converter that used to control BLDC motor for the electric vehicles drive. Generally, the BLDC motor is using AC to DC electronic converter called a voltage source inverter (VSI) for BLDC motor drive. The conventional strategy for the BLDC motor drive is input voltage control of the motor by VSI with pulse width modulation (PWM) technique. The disadvantage of this strategy is power loss VSI, difficult to control speed ripple error of the motor and the maximum speed of the motor was limited by the maximum supply voltage which supplies to the motor.
This thesis is improving the disadvantage of the conventional strategy with DC to DC electronic converter called a Bi-Directional Buck-Boost (BDBB) converter. This converter has many advantages such as increasing the output voltage of the converter with boost converter circuit properties, decreasing the output voltage of the converter with buck converter circuit properties and regulating the output voltage of the converter with buck-boost converter circuit properties.
